Whether its pouring rain, sunny or overcast, Wednesday is still Wednesday. Wednesdays will now be made that much better because of the following happy hours that you may or may not have already been aware of. Wednesday's are always a feel good day of the week- and that's because you realise the weekend is that much closer. Monday is a struggle, Tuesday is just a joke of a day, but Wednesday, well, this day is almost as good as Friday. Below is a list of NightGuru's favourite spots to hang, eat, dine and drink as you reached the middle of the week. Enjoy!
The Morrison (CBD)
$1 Oysters between 6-7pm on Wednesday's at our friends at The Morrison. Get in line early because it seriously is one of the most popular happy hours out. If you didn't like the price of Oysters to begin with, now is your chance to experiment with them. I have seen on one occasion a gentlemen order 100 of them, whether he finished them, who knows? Regardless, this is up there as one of the best happy hours going round town. Get in line!
Wharf Bar (Manly)
$16 Burger including local beer of House Wine from 5-9pm. At NightGuru we rate this very highly not just because the location is as close to the waters edge as you can get without being in the water, but because the burger and beer combo is unbeatable. Picture this- you finish work for the day, catch the ferry back home to Manly, and waiting for you is a burger and a beer (or house wine) for $16. Watch the sun go down, and celebrate the fact you have made it through another half week and lived to tell the tale. Gets our thumbs up!
The Two Wolves Community Cantina (Chippendale)
$1 Wings (Batch of Ten) from 5-9pm. We came here last week for the wings, we left wanting the recipe. As they say, a magician never reveals his tricks. This only means one thing- we will be back again. These finger licking wings are to die for. In a lively and buzzing space that once was an old bank, you get more than just wings when you arrive at the Two Wolves in Chippendale. Service is stellar, food is great, and plenty of drink happy hours can be found on NightGuru to wash the wings down. The best part about it is, all profits go to the housing and education projects overseas operating in places like Cambodia, Mexico, and Thailand. You go for the wings, you leave wanting more. Well done!
Hotel Mosman (Mosman)
$9.90 steaks with any drink purchase from 12pm. Hotel Mosman affectionately known as, 'the duck', provides great quality entertainment and food for all. This is a great place to watch the footy, have a yarn or just have a night off cooking after a long day at work. With a huge range of beers, ciders, and wine, the hardest decision to make is what to order. We just made it easier for you! Get around it. We do most weeks.
Monday is not fun. It is the start of the week, and the weekend seems as though it is lightyears away. Game of thrones is out of season, and its winter. How do you make your Monday's better? Simple. Eat and drink your way through the start of the week at cheap prices in prime locations. We tell you when and where to go. Start enjoying your Monday's again.
Steyne Hotel (Manly)
2 for 1 Meals from 5pm-9pm. The views available at the Steyne overlooking the Manly waterfront is made that much better on Monday's when you get a second meal for free. From a selection of finger licking options, (range of pizzas, house steaks, burgers and parmi's) you will be spoilt for choice.
The Norfolk (Surry Hills)
$4 Mini Burgers Monday Evenings. An eclectic, laidback and pokie-free pub taking cues from cantinas, subterranean grottos and stateside diners. A vewry tex mex feel to it. You know you are in for a good evening when you can cop a feed with the spare change in your wallet. Breaking $5 notes never tasted so good!
Papi Chulo (Manly)
$10 Burgers on the wharf! Located at the water’s edge on Manly Wharf, Papi Chulo is the perfect day-to-night destination for all ages. Enjoy the sea breeze and harbour views while indulging in a delicious array of smokehouse meats, succulent seafood and an award winning wine list. A $10 burger is never bad, but a burger that gets your stomach wanting another one is priceless.
Blues Point Hotel (McMahons Point)
$20 Sirloin steak with a glass of house wine. Clocked off the worksite and don't feel like cooking. Have no fear, Blues Point Hotel comes in with a cheer. Eat by the fireplace or by the bar to a steak and glass of red of your choice. The cosiest of choices on a wet Monday evening.
While the rise of Pokemon GO has seen some Sydneysiders do some outrageous things over the past few weeks (e.g. going outside), it has become a somewhat de facto meeting platform for people with similar interests (i.e. pokemon). For those of you who are just analogue people living in a digital world, we’ve got a few venues where you can meet real people who aren’t trying to catch that Snorlax over there.
The Beresford Hotel (Surry Hills)
This art deco pub has had a serious makeover in recent years. It’s got everything from feature wall terrariums to wood fire pizzas to a genuinely good DF on the upper level. It’s the kind of vibe where you feel as equally comfortable having a boogie with your closest gal pals as you would stretching over a denim-clad stranger for the Pimms jug on a Sunday afternoon.
Cargo Bar (Darling Harbour)
Although Cargo Bar has a pretty intense reputation post-midnight, it’s actually the perfect place to have some easily flowing conversations over a few $5 happy hour bevs to get an enjoyable buzz on. If you’re feeling like sticking around, the DJs do spin some red-hot tracks. Either way, it’s the best place in the harbour for some sunset sundowners.
Soda Factory (Surry Hills)
This place is where ‘Surry Hills Cool’ meets ‘Oxford Street Fun’. It’s large, which means that its perfect for some low-pressure mingling. It’s got a pretty eclectic aesthetic of 1950s diner crossed with retro industrial chic, which is perfect for conversation starters. But as the night wears on, Soda Factory is the place to be for some fun-loving dance times with people who aren’t total creeps.
This warehouse-style bar hidden in Chippendale is fun, open, and intimate. It’s like the perfect combination of sexy and cute (ref Crazy, Stupid Love), with enough going on to make a first date not awkward, but also some spaces where you could have a solid group session without getting claustrophobic. What’s more, if you get there on the right night, they have some of the best themed parties going on in Sydney (where talking Destiny’s Child tributes people!)
Newtown Hotel (Newtown)
This pub epitomises what it means to be a Newtowner: from the local street art draping the walls, to the mid-week indie flick screenings, to a cantina-style beer garden, to the social AF bar staff with stories to tell. While many bars in Newtown bring out the brooding mysterious figures, Newtown Hotel attracts the louder, more fun-loving characters who still enjoy the ability actually hear each other. Whether you come alone or with a crew, Newtown Hotel will always make your night better.
Coogee Pavillion @Coogee
The Coogee Pavilion and its split 240 degrees rooftop is a serious contender for our pick as number one punting ground for summertime digs. Go here for fresh juices, long lunches, craft brews and the beauty of the Sydney coastline.
Overlooking the bustling hub of King Street, Webster's Rooftop brings a slice of 1950s backyard Australia to Newtown. From the quirky astro turf, birdcages and flamingos, to the leafy terrace and rustic barbeque pit, Webster's Rooftop brings together the best of the era to serve up a rockin' good time.
The Glenmore @CBD
Take in the sweeping million dollar, 180 degree views of Sydney Harbour and CBD from The Glenmore’s sensational rooftop. The rooftop has long been a destination for those who would like to soak up the sun and enjoy a meal all whilst overlooking the world’s most beautiful harbour. With a retractable roof, the rooftop is open rain, hail or shine, so you can enjoy the view all year round.
Taylors @Sydney CBD
Think greenery, think New York rooftop, think local brews. Taylor’s Social offers a nice balance of bustling inner city culture and the exclusivity of a rooftop location. This venue has seen a number of Hollywood celebrities walk through the doors, and comfortable seating for guests to recline on after a long day of work. Enjoy ripper food, great company and picture perfect views of the best city in the world, Sydney.
Pokemon hotspot @Websters- (Newtown)
Websters in Newtown is a renowned hotspot for catching more than bourbon and beer. Staryus are a frequent here, rumour has it Mew passes by on Wednesdays. Not only that, but this comfy pub is nearby many a Pokestop. Websters in Newtown has it all. With mouthwatering tapas options, craft beer and one of the best rooftop bars in Sydney, Websters offers itself as a place that does more than just food and drink.
Nintendo 64 @ The Wanderer – (Surry Hills)
Surry Hills delivers yet again. Combining old school video games with alcohol are the best ingredients to a evening that delivers. Over at the Wanderer you’ll find a big TV screen, a Nintendo 64, and loungeroom vibes. Battling locals for the next round of beer is a common occurrence. Battle it out with Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers. Down a few craft beers, thrive off an audience and get stuck into a few tasty options from the food menu.
Bowling @ The Standard Bowl – (Darlinghurst)
Beer, bowling, best mates and great tunes can only mean one thing- a good evening. Head on over to The Standard Bowl in Darlinghurst and you'll see what we're talking about. If you think all that sounds too good to be true, Johnny Wong’s Dumpling Bar is within a bowl, being located one level below. Not only that, but Pinball, a pool table, and incredible cocktails puts the cherry on top.
Pool Club @ivy- CBD
Recline pool side, sip cocktails in private cabanas and feast on sophisticated food options all under an open air sky. This is an oasis with above average tunes. Sunday is our pick for a ripper evening. Don the Ralph Lauren threads, wax your head and recline poolside with the locals and you'll see what we're talking about.

There's plenty of things you can find out about on NightGuru, but our all time favourites are definitely the $10 cocktail specials! Whether you're out celebrating with a hard-earned mojito or sitting back with an intimate espresso martini, you'll find plenty of cocktails which won't break the bank on NightGuru. Here's a few of our picks
Li'l Darlin' (Darlinghurst)
We love this comfortable little bar, but what we love even more is that every Thursday & Friday from 4pm-6pm, we can get deep into it with $10 Darlin' Collection cocktails! What's even better is if you're keen to stick around for the night, the $10 Darlin' Collection cocktails start up again after 10pm! How good.
The Balmain Hotel (Balmain)
The Balmain Hotel has gotten a bit cheeky on us with this one. Every Friday night they have a 'Cocktail Hour of Power', where you can get $10 cocktails for a whole hour, but the only issue is you don't know which hour. They have one of the best beer gardens in Sydney, so its the perfect place for a cocktail all weekend, but as soon as you hear the bell ring on a Friday night, its game on!
The Two Wolves Cantina (Chippendale)
There are many things to love about The Two Wolves Community Cantina. The incredible food, the friendly atmosphere and service, the feel-good aspect of the work that they do. Every Friday night from 5pm-7pm, you'll find all this plus some delicious $10 cocktails to sip on to your heart's content. Plus, you can feel good knowing that every cocktail you purchase here is helping disadvantaged communities around the world.
Secret Garden Bar (Enmore)
This garden may have a few secrets, but one which we are proud to let you in on is that every Sunday as part of the Sunday Collective, these legends are serving up $10 cocktails from 2pm-7pm! They've usually got some pretty rockin' tunes playing as well, so its perfect for a relaxing Sunday session.
Cyren Bar & Grill (Darling Harbour)
Sitting right on the water in Darling Harbour, Cyren is one of the most chilled and easy breezy bars in Sydney. What makes their atmosphere oh so juicy is brought to life (for us) every day of the week between 3pm-6pm. This is when they bring out the happy hour and bring out the $10 cocktails, and we are already wishing it was 3pm just writing this.

Even though it feels like it's about -4 degrees outside in Sydney these days, that doesn't stop these hospitality gurus from creating new and artistic spaces. If you're looking for something new to add to your to-do list this month, check out some of these new bars!
Deus Bar & Kitchen (Camperdown)
Deus Cafe has been revitalised with a new menu and relaxed industrial aesthetic. They offer an array of specialised cocktails and (of course) the classics. The space is large, with workshop-style fittings amongst scattered cafe racer motorbikes. It feels like its been here forever, but the addition of the grand bar across the room makes this place a new gem for Camperdown.
Beta Bar (CBD)
Set on the upper level of Alpha Restaurant, Beta Bar brings the best in everything mezze and cocktails. It's the kind of place which offers a throw-back to the traditional style hospitality of Greece by focussing on combinations of small-plate tapas with fragrant cocktails. The large exposed walls surrounding the accented seating gives the space an open and relaxed vibe. We definitely recommend the feta custard and duck-skin crisps with a Dirty Greek Martini.
Sitting where Zanzibar used to make its mark, Webster's brings a new industrial-style bourbon bar to the people of Newtown. Downstairs offers a warm and comfortable prohibition whiskey bar with all the trimmings, while the rooftop represents a quintessential 1950s Australian backyard vibe. They've got vinyl sessions spinning every weekend and we couldn't be more into it!
From the guys who brought you Lobo Plantation, comes the new (but old) bar deep within the city, Kittyhawk. The bar offers a Parisian atmosphere, which is carried all the way through the furniture, food and cocktail list! Boasting over 900 spirits, this place is definitely the next hangout for you and your cool AF friends with a healthy amount of time on your hands.
Tonic Lane (Neutral Bay)
A new gin bar has landed in Neutral Bay in the form of Tonic Lane! They've got all day food, but more importantly, this intimate little bar offers an extensive list of locally crafted gin from distilleries such as Poor Tom's and Four Pillars. The cocktail list is (of course) gin-focussed, with an array of various twists and interpretations which will turn even the most wary gin drinker. We recommend anything with West Winds Gin in it!

Today, it was announced that pubs and clubs across Sydney experienced a record drop in business of around 20% since Pokémon Go was released onto the AppStore on Wednesday July 6. As the game requires users to fumble around the city in the rain looking for wild Pokémon, many patrons have found themselves no longer needing drugs and alcohol to ‘have fun’. The craze first took off when onlookers witnessed what appeared to be a level 60 Venusaur get taken down by a PokéBall on the dance floor of Kit & Kaboodle on Wednesday night.
Since then, many inner-city bar patrons appear to have inadvertently stumbled into venues whilst looking for the next ‘PokéGym’. When NightGuru questioned a first-time partygoer outside the teen-dream establishment Scary Canary on Thursday night, he responded: ‘Nangs? I don’t know that Pokémon’.
Local self-proclaimed spokesperson for LockOutLaws Australia, Terry Dingle, said: “We’re really excited about the new competition in the market. It was becoming quite mundane being the only player in the hospitality destruction industry. We are always on the lookout for new ways to single-handedly bring down local businesses, and this app is exactly the kind of lateral thinking the NSW Government needs”.
Mr Dingle also wished to stress that he has a level 30 Doduo.
