Today, it was announced that pubs and clubs across Sydney experienced a record drop in business of around 20% since Pokémon Go was released onto the AppStore on Wednesday July 6. As the game requires users to fumble around the city in the rain looking for wild Pokémon, many patrons have found themselves no longer needing drugs and alcohol to ‘have fun’. The craze first took off when onlookers witnessed what appeared to be a level 60 Venusaur get taken down by a PokéBall on the dance floor of Kit & Kaboodle on Wednesday night.
Since then, many inner-city bar patrons appear to have inadvertently stumbled into venues whilst looking for the next ‘PokéGym’. When NightGuru questioned a first-time partygoer outside the teen-dream establishment Scary Canary on Thursday night, he responded: ‘Nangs? I don’t know that Pokémon’.
Local self-proclaimed spokesperson for LockOutLaws Australia, Terry Dingle, said: “We’re really excited about the new competition in the market. It was becoming quite mundane being the only player in the hospitality destruction industry. We are always on the lookout for new ways to single-handedly bring down local businesses, and this app is exactly the kind of lateral thinking the NSW Government needs”.
Mr Dingle also wished to stress that he has a level 30 Doduo.
